About Institution:
National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC) is one of India’s 31 institutions of national importance, established under the National Institute of Technology Act, 2007, and fully funded by the Government of India. Originally founded in 1961 as a Regional Engineering College (REC), it was rebranded as an NIT in 2002 with a focus on higher technical education and research in Engineering, Science, Technology, and Management. Located amidst the picturesque Western Ghats in Kerala, NITC spans 120 hectares along the Calicut-Mukkam road, approximately 22 km from Calicut city. The region, historically significant as the entry point of Vasco da Gama to India, is known for its serene landscapes, backwaters, and vibrant local culture. As a fully residential institution, NITC provides state-of-the-art infrastructure, including academic buildings, research labs, hostels, and faculty residences. The Institute offers 11 undergraduate (UG) and 29 postgraduate (PG) programs, including an MBA, along with robust doctoral research programs that have seen remarkable growth in research publications and patents. With proactive collaborations across academia, research organizations, and industries, NITC plays a pivotal role in technological advancement and regional development. Ranked 23rd among technical institutions and 3rd in architecture in 2020, the Institute continues its pursuit of excellence, aiming for global recognition through innovation and academic leadership. NITC acknowledges the Government of India, Ministry of Education, Kerala State Government, alumni, and industry partners for their continued support in its mission to drive impactful education and research.
