ABOUT THE INSTITUTE: Madras Institute of Technology is one of the premier technical institution started in the year 1949 by Shri. C. Rajam, an eminent industrialist. The institute is established as a result of a bold experiment in technical education as it introduced for the first time, totally unconventional Engineering courses such as Aeronautical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Electronics Engineering and Instrumentation Engineering. It was merged with Anna University in the year 1978.
DEPT. OF PRODUCTION TECHNOLOGY (MIT): The Department of Production Technology was started in the year 1977. Presently department conducts two UG programmes: B.E. (Production Engg.) and B.E. Robotics and Automation) as well as two PG programmes: M.E. (Manufacturing Engg.) and M.E. (Mechatronics), besides PhD programme. The department is sanctioned with TANII 2020 project towards the development of semi and fully automated intelligent exo-skeletal and prosthetics for disabled communities. The department is progressing toward societal benefit projects involving indigenous manufacturing, mechatronics and automation as well as interdepartmental research.
DEPT. OF ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING (MIT): The Department of Electronics Engineering was established in the year 1949, has its core strength in the leading areas of Electronics & Communication. The academic programmes offered in the Department are B.E (Electronics and Communication Engineering), M.E (Communication and Networking, VLSI Design and Embedded Systems & Wireless Technologies).
DEPT. OF CERAMIC TECHNOLOGY (A.C TECH): The growth of Ceramic industry in India during the past 75 years is commendable. The growing demand for trained manpower in Ceramic industry led to the launch of M.Tech degree programme in Ceramic Technology under the Department of Chemical Engineering in Anna University during the academic year 1990-91 with the seed money from M/s Carborundum Universal Ltd, Chennai. During the academic year 1996-97, B.Tech degree programme in Ceramic Technology was started.
