Course Overview:
India, with its immense cultural diversity, is looking back on a long history and endless list of cultural and architectural heritage buildings from the pre-colonial and colonial times. Since its independence in 1947 there have been an extraordinary amount and output of architectural jewels, buildings and town planning projects from the 1950s onwards. This “architecture of independence “from the fifties until the seventies” is still underestimated in its historic importance, significance and architectural quality. This course is an immersive exploration of India’s postcolonial architectural legacy and will address the perception of these “Youngtimers.” There shall be a meticulous discussion on the history of art and architecture in the 20th century, both overseas as well as Indian architects and their works related to both Architecture and Urban Planning.
The course delves into comprehensive methods of heritage management as well as heritage conservation of post- colonial buildings. This course will show the need for a sensitive preservation of the outstanding buildings from this
era and will demonstrate examples in conservation technologies. Furthermore, it extensively covers the integration of cutting-edge digital tools, including mobile-based and computer-based solutions, emphasizing the revolutionary impact of LiDAR scanning for buildings technology in the preservation and conservation of historical architectural marvels across India.
