About the Event:
Hands-on Training in Plant Tissue Culture Techniques 2026 is organized by the Department of Plant Biotechnology, Centre for Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (CPMB&B), Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), Coimbatore, scheduled from 19th to 22nd May 2026. The training covers both theoretical and hands-on practical sessions, with theory topics including an introduction to plant tissue culture, morphogenetic pathways, micropropagation of plants, virus indexing and genetic fidelity testing, and NCS-TCP certification of tissue-culture plants. Practical sessions include organization of a plant tissue culture lab, nutrient stock solution and media preparation, meristem and nodal culture, micropropagation of banana, sugarcane, trees (bamboo/teak), and ornamental plants, as well as callus and cell suspension culture. Limited in-house accommodation is available at TNAU guest houses/hostels on a payment basis.

About TNAU:
The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) had its genesis from establishment of an Agricultural School at Saidapet, Madras, Tamil Nadu, as early as 1868 and it was later relocated at Coimbatore. In 1920 it was affiliated to Madras University. TNAU assumed full responsibilities of Agricultural Education and Research and supported the State Agricultural Department by delivering research products. Till 1946, the Agricultural College and Research Institute, Coimbatore, was the only Institute for Agricultural Education for the whole of South India. In 1958, it was recognized as a Post-graduate Centre leading to Masters and Doctoral degrees. The Agricultural College and Research Institute, Madurai was established in 1965. These two colleges formed the nucleus of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University while it was established in 1971.
