About the workshop
Dear viewers Bannari Amman Institute of Technology conducing two days workshop. This workshop facilitates knowledge exchange
between the expert and students in the area of
vehicle dynamics
Course Contents
Module 1: Preliminaries (3 hours)
1. Dynamic systems and models.
2. Classification of dynamic systems – Linearity, Time invariance, Representation using Ordinary Differential Equations.
3. Transfer function and state space representations.
4. Brief overview of dynamics.
Module 2: Longitudinal Dynamics (3 hours)
1. Forces acting on a vehicle – Aerodynamic drag, Rolling resistance, Grade resistance.
2. Concept of friction ellipse – Limits of traction available at the tyre-road interface, Issues.
3. Dynamics during acceleration – Governing equations, Traction available for various drive configurations.
4. Dynamics during braking – Governing equations, Brake force distribution, stopping distance, Vehicle stability.
Module 3: Lateral Dynamics (3 hours)
1. Kinematic analysis – Ackermann steering geometry, Realization of steering geometry, turning radius.
2. Dynamic analysis – Steady state cornering, Bicycle model, Understeer gradient,Concept of understeer and oversteer, Influence of vehicle longitudinal speed.
Module 4: Vertical Dynamics (3 hours)
1. Ride analysis – Quarter car model, Ride characterization, Modes associated with the quarter car model, Influence of suspension stiffness and damping.
2. Roll analysis – Half car roll model
